PE

Through a planned, coherent curriculum in physical education pupils will be inspired to succeed and excel in personal excellence, including competitive sports and other physically-demanding activities. It will provide opportunities for pupils to become active and physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness whilst learning and developing a broad and varied range of skills. Our primary goals are to achieve enjoyment, respect, excitement, perseverance and positive self-confidence in our pupils.

At KS1 they learn new skills, mastering and controlling basic movements which can be applied in a range of activities, including participating in team games where tactics are used to attack and defend and performing dances using simple movement patterns.

At KS2 they learn these skills through applying, learning and developing a broader range of skills, building on those learnt in Key Stage 1. Pupils will use movement skills in isolation and combination, play competitive games using suitable principles for attacking and defending, develop flexibility, strength, control and balance, perform dances using a range of movement patterns, take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and as part of a team, compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best. In addition to this, swimming is taught in KS2.
