About The Governing Body

The Governors

The role of the Governing Board is a strategic one; we work with the school to provide strategic leadership and support to the headteacher and staff.

Governing Boards, within maintained schools, have three core functions:

★    Ensuring the vision and strategic direction of the school.

★    Overseeing the school’s financial performance, ensuring money is well-spent.

★    Holding the headteacher or school leadership to account.

The Headteacher is responsible for the day to day management of the school. The governors provide the strategic direction and act as a “critical friend” to support the headteacher and staff.

The role of individual governors is primarily a thinking and questioning role.

You can find out more about the role of a school governor on the Bucks Education website here.

How does the Governing Board at Cheddington Combined School work?

The Governing Board operates a circle model, where all work is conducted at Board level, with smaller working groups for specific areas as necessary. The Full Governing Board meets 3 times per term.

Who are the Governors?

At Cheddington Combined School we have 12 governors; including the Headteacher, 1 Staff Governor, 2 Parent Governors and 8 Co-opted Governors (including Local Authority appointed governors).

All governors (other than the Headteacher) have 4 year term. The Chair and Vice Chair are appointed, by the Governing Board, on a one year term.

Find out more about our current governors below.

Meeting and Contacting the Governors

There are informal opportunities to meet with governors throughout the academic year as they regularly attend parents evenings, school events, etc.

If you wish to contact the governors you may do so anytime at gboard@cheddington.bucks.sch.uk

In addition the Governors conduct an Annual Survey (usually in the Spring Term) to anonymously seek feedback from Staff and Parents on their current experiences at the school. This feedback is used to inform the Governors strategic planning.
